Celebrating life’s stories: National Skilled Nursing Care Week

     In skilled nursing care centers across the country, each person has a unique story to tell. That’s why Monticello Nursing and Rehab is excited that the theme of this year’s National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW), formerly known as National Nursing Home Week, taking place May 13-19, is “Celebrating Life’s Stories.”

     Taking time to listen to how life’s most significant events, relationships, and experiences have shaped who others are today, cultivates a shared sense of purpose and deeper understanding for both narrator and the listener. The theme for the observance, “Celebrating Life’s Stories,” pays tribute to the diverse perspectives that residents, families, and staff bring to interactions every day in skilled nursing care centers and the surrounding communities.

     Monticello Nursing and Rehab takes pride in better understanding our residents’ stories. During National Skilled Nursing Care Week, our residents will participate in a variety of story-telling activities, pairing residents and staff and exploring various life experiences while discovering our similarities and differences. We will also be taking a bus trip to a resident’s family farm where residents will learn about the farm life traditions and how these traditions have shaped their families.

     This year’s annual NSNCW observance recognizes the power of personal narratives and the role skilled nursing care centers play in caring for America’s seniors. Each person in the long and post-acute care community contributes a distinct perspective that enriches the story of each center.

     Come learn about our amazing residents and celebrate National Skilled Nursing Care Week with us. Life story collages will be posted throughout our center and you are invited to participate in any or all of our activities scheduled at 10 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. daily.
