Byron “Mike” Goettsch Dec. 5, 1938-June 25, 2017

     Byron “Mike” Goettsch, age 78, died Sunday, June 25, 2017 at St. Luke’s UnityPoint Hospice, Cedar Rapids following complications from surgery.

     Funeral services will be held at 11 Thursday morning, June 29, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors.      Surviving is his wife, Pam of 52 years; two children, Lisa (Mick) Adams, Monticello, Corey (Cara) Goettsch, Clarksville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Trint (Erin) Adams, Travis Adams, Kristina (Patrick) Pace, Katie (Dallas Lumpa) Goettsch, Kody Goettsch, Brandi Davis, Justen Davis; five great-grandchildren, Cameron Koelsch, Kelsey and Sawyer Adams, Rayden Pace, Lennon Lumpa and his sister, Marcia (Robert) Stark, Boynton Beach, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents.

     Byron Michael Goettsch was born Dec. 5, 1938 at Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of Verne “Bud” and Marjorie Edwards, Goettsch. Mike graduated from the Anamosa Community Schools with the Class of 1956. He continued his education at the University of Iowa and later at the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in Dallas, Texas. Following graduation from the Mortuary College, Mike went on to serve in the United States Army. On his return from service, Mike was employed as funeral director for Warner Funeral Home in Spencer, Iowa. Mike married Pamalee Norman on March 20, 1965 at the First Congregational Church, Spencer, Iowa. The couple moved to Monticello in the fall of 1965 when Mike joined his father and Uncle Cecil at the Goettsch Funeral Home. In 1968 Mike became the first administrator of the Monticello Senior Home. In 1972 he returned to funeral service at the Goettsch Funeral Homes. On Dec. 5, 1977 Mike joined Freese Motors in Monticello where he remained until he retired in 2012. 

     Mike belonged to the Monticello Lions Club and was the treasure for the Lions Girls Softball Leagues for many years. While he was at the Senior Home, Mike was very active on the Hoover Health Council where he served a term as President. He was also a long-time member of the Monticello Golf Club and served a term as the Board President. 

     Mike was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family.
