Bravo to local industries for support

Express Editorial

If you haven’t noticed, Monticello is home to some very generous businesses and industries.

The Express’ sixth annual Pink Out event earlier this month raised over $2,400 to go toward cancer services offered locally at Jones Regional Medical Center. This would not have been possible without the generosity of local businesses that donated toward the worthy cause.

Again this year, Polo Custom Products was our top donor, with well over $1,000 coming from the employees. Every year they team up internally to raise money for this cause. With several ladies from Polo having battled breast cancer, they obviously take this fundraiser personally, and rightly so. If you know someone who has been touched by cancer, it makes the effort all that much more personal and worth fighting for.

Inside this week’s Express is a donation photo featuring our own Mary Yanda, Pete Temple, and Kim Brooks, as well as dozens and dozens of JRMC staff, all wearing our pink best. It was such a privilege to be able to present the hospital with $2,400 this year. It feels so good to donate to a more-than worthy cause, knowing it’s staying local.

Another Monticello-based industry that also continues to give to the local community is Orbis. Not only are they investing in the community by building a 100,000-square-foot addition onto their current facility, more than doubling their space, but they recently donated over $11,000 to area organizations. Those photos are also found inside this week’s Express with a half dozen or more expected to appear in next week’s issue.

As we took each of the Orbis donation photos last week, every non-profit and organization or school was overwhelmed by the $500 donation. They were quite surprised by the, again, generosity of another Monticello industry.

We are so lucky to have businesses and industries that give back to Monticello and support so many entities. (K.N.B.)
