Jones County Central

November meeting

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018 at Jones County Youth Development Center.

     President Grace Lubben called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m. Autumn Kirby led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was not given. Treasurer’s Report was given. Koree Miller moved to approve the treasurer’s report and Gracie Henderson seconded it; it passed by majority vote. Bills were presented. Natalie Henderson moved to approve payment for the presented bills and Gracie Henderson seconded; it passed by majority vote. Roll call was – “Name one Kitchen Safety Tip.” It was answered by seventeen members. There were three leaders and seven guests present.

     Old Business: Online Enrollment and Code of Ethics need to be completed if you have not done so. Gracie Henderson, Natalie Henderson and Hailey Henderson reported on the junior volleyball game and described the event as “A lot of fun.” Autumn Kirby and Koree Miller reported on Awards Day, saying that everything went smoothly and our members did really well.

     New Business: The Club By-Laws were passed out to each member, so that members knew the club expectations. Koree Miller moved to approve the Club By-Laws and Hailey Henderson seconded it; it passed by majority vote. The Revised Club Budget was passed by majority vote with Elizabeth Riniker moving the motion and Ava Capron seconding it. Officer training is scheduled for Nov. 12, 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Olin Public Library. The Christmas Tree Walk is Dec. 7-9 at the Lawrence Community Center and we plan to have a tree there as well as making a HACAP donation for having a tree there. The club will donate Christmas cards, tie blankets, DVDs, books, games, and cards to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and Clinics, and Blank Children’s Hospital. We will again participate in the Christmas STAR program. The club has turned in the paperwork and will receive a family by Nov. 12 and shopping will begin. We will be wrapping these gifts at our December meeting and it was agreed that the club would buy a toy, an outfit, and hat and gloves for every child in the family along with cleaning items, food, and an essential basket for the family. Our Christmas party is scheduled for Dec. 2 at the Jones County Youth Development Center at noon. Edgewood Locker meat will be served along with many different activities planned. Please bring a dozen cookies/bars to the December meeting, so that the Cookie Appreciation Platters can be assembled to be given to eight businesses for their continued support of 4-H in Jones County. It was also announced that each member needs to bring two non-perishable items to the next meeting for distribution to HACAP and Senior Dining shut-ins. The beef weigh-in will be held Dec. 22 at Kirkwood Community College Tippie Beef Center for any market beef animal(s) that may possibly be shown at the Iowa State Fair or AKSARBEN. For any market beef animal(s) that is only going to the county fair – weigh in will be Dec. 29 at the Cascade Sale Barn. We also plan to hand out gift bags on Dec. 8 at the Monticello Care Center as well. The club welcomed new members: Ava Capron and Lauren Oltmanns.

     The meeting was adjourned at 3:03 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Elizabeth Riniker.

Jones County Central

October meeting

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 at the Jones County Youth Development Center.

     The meeting was called to order at 6:58 p.m. by President Grace Lubben. Maisie Paulsen led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s Report was not given. Treasurer’s Report was given and it was moved by Lydia Recker to approve the report. It was seconded by Karli Recker and passed by majority vote. Roll call was – “Tell about a scar you have and how you got it.” It was answered by fourteen members. There were three leaders and nine guests present.

     Old Business: The following members had projects at the state fair: Maisie Paulsen participated in the $15 Challenge Clothing Event, Elizabeth Riniker took goats, Autumn Kirby took clothing and an animal science poster, Zabrina Kirby took a visual arts project, Tabi Etten took an embroidery project, Koree Miller took a leadership poster and a care bear project, Karli Recker took sheep, Lydia Recker took a nightstand and ottoman, and Trista DeShaw showed swine in the open show. The secretary’s book, Treasurer’s book, Historian’s book, and Reporter’s Award were handed into the Extension office for evaluation. Record books need to be turned in as soon as possible. We also had a float in the Pumpkinfest parade that had a barn scene with many of our members dressed as multiple farm animals. The float received very good feedback from the crowd and received a third place ribbon.

     New Business: The club purchased a banner that says “Jones County Central 4-H” for display at events. The motion was moved by Autumn Kirby and seconded by Maisie Paulsen to pay this bill. The motion was passed by majority vote. Election of officers was held and our new officers include:  President – Grace Lubben, Vice-President – Marissa Recker, Secretary – Grant Lubben, Treasurer – Autumn Kirby, Reporter – Elizabeth Riniker, Historian’s position still needs to be filled, Photographer – Trista DeShaw, and Activities Director – Koree Miller. The club budget was discussed. It was moved by Tabi Etten and seconded by Marissa Recker to approve the club budget. It passed by majority vote. National 4-H week is October 7-13. Celebrate by wearing your 4-H shirt. 4-H Volleyball has been scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Monticello Middle School starting at 9 a.m. with the juniors and the senior games to follow. Awards Day is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 4. For Make a Difference Day we will be raking Maria White’s yard; the motion was moved by Trista DeShaw and seconded by Tabi  Etten. The motion passed by majority vote.  It was discussed to move the November meeting to Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. to accommodate for raking Mrs. White’s yard, so we can have the meeting afterward. It was also discussed that we move our December meeting to Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. for our Christmas party, and that we move our February meeting to Feb. 3 at 1:00 p.m. for the Super Bowl. The motion was moved by Koree Miller and seconded by Elizabeth Riniker. It passed by majority vote. The club welcomed new member Brooklyn Stark.

     The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Autumn Kirby.
