Oxford Happy Hustlers

     The regular meeting of the Oxford Happy Hustlers was held on April 7, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Godfather’s Pizza. Before our meeting the club went shopping for our club tour.

     Meeting was called to order by President Nicole Guenther. Roll call was “How much was your outfit today?” All members answered. Four members and four guests were present. Committee reports were on Easter baskets.

     Old business – 4-H fair both ideas, clothing event, share the fun communications day are all on May 12.

     New business – 4-Hers for 4-H; it was moved by Alexis Payne that we pay $3 per member, seconded by Morgan Strait. Flower pot, a move to pay for seasons passes, was made by Alexis Payne and seconded by Morgan Strait. Conference judging will be July 16. Other topics included LPR online, Horticulture judging is July 18, dog agility class, and there is a new County Youth Coordinator (CYC).

     Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Alexis Payne, seconded by Morgan Strait. The next meeting will be May 6. Host is Nicole Guenther, and presentations will be Lillian Strait on recycling and repurposing clothing, Alexis Payne on her dog, and Morgan Strait on consumer science.

Olin 4-H Club

     The Olin 4H Club held its monthly meeting on April 8, 2018.

     A team building activity was played, with a goal of how to answer questions on your projects at the fair. Fair booth and fundraising committees met. Decisions were made on the fair booth and our fundraiser was started. T-shirts for our club were also decided on. Discussion was held on the 4H Intermediate Trip, clothing event, educational presentation, working exhibit and FSQA training.

     Presentations were given by Ethan Zoller on candle light bulbs and Aaron Bixler on a gumball machine. Next meeting will be Sunday, May 6 at the Olin Legion Hall.

Jones County Central

     The Jones County Central 4-H Club held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the Jones County Youth Development Community Center. The members participated in a Trivia Challenge prior to the start of the meeting.

     The meeting was called to order at 1:58 p.m. by Wesley Henderson. Trista DeShaw led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary’s report was not given. Treasurer’s report was given and it was moved by Natalie Henderson to approve the report. It was seconded by Gracie Henderson and passed by majority vote. Roll call was – “Name a random act of kindness that you did or plan to do this year.” It was answered by 14 members. There were three leaders and six guests present.

     Old Business: The Legislative trip was attended by Autumn Kirby and Zabrina Kirby and they reported on touring the Capitol and on meeting with our district legislators. They also got to tour the governor’s office. Gracie Henderson, Natalie Henderson, Hailey Henderson and Trista DeShaw reported on the Junior basketball game, which they said was fun and they all had a great time. Wesley Henderson reported on the Senior basketball team and said they had a lot of fun, also.

     New Business: The Intermediate trip is scheduled for April 21-22 – Exploring Central Iowa. See the flyer on the 4-H  Intermediate trip for more details. Registration is due by April 6. If you have any questions, please contact the Extension Office. Swine Weigh-in will be held Saturday, March 24, 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Jones County Fairgrounds. A separate email will be sent to members enrolled in swine, so be on the lookout for it. This is the derby swine deadline with April 28 being the market hog deadline. Spring Fundraiser (Edgewood Locker Meat) – Thank you to all members and parents for selling! We will let everyone know how we did at the next meeting. YQCA – The 4-H program is going to a new quality assurance program starting January, 2018. There will be no face to face meeting this year, everything will be done online. The YQCA is only good for one year and will cost $12 to take. A letter was sent out from the Extension Office on this new change to the rules this year.

     The meeting was adjourned at 2:17 p.m. with the 4-H Pledge being led by Karli Recker.

Scotch Grove Challengers

     The regular meeting of the Scotch Grove Challengers was held at the Monticello Renaissance Center in Monticello on April 8, 2018.

     Club members participated in a healthy living challenge of a Mind Challenge/Riddle Trivia.

     President Tommy Dirks called the meeting to order at 6:14 p.m. Twenty-seven members answered the roll call topic, “Your favorite flower.” Thirteen guests were present. Will Wolken led the Pledge of Allegiance. Will Wolken read the secretary’s report. There were no additions or corrections. Autry Fasnacht made the motion to approve the secretary’s report and Cooper Wickman seconded. Motion carried. Kacie Rickels provided the treasurer’s report. Ty Jesenovec made the motion to approve the treasurer’s report and Tate Jesenovec seconded. Motion carried.

     Old business: $15 Casey’s pizza and $10 donut cards are ready to sell. See leaders to pick up.

     New business: The fair theme this year is “Welcome Home.” The club is having a contest for the person that can come up a winning idea for the club booth. Fairgrounds work – each club is asked to work a two-hour shift. Communication and Clothing event is May 12, with sign up due April 20. Working Exhibits held on July 17. Reports are due July 1. 4-Her’s for 4-H Campaign – Gavin Cooper made the motion to donate $3 per member, John Welter seconded the motion. Motion carried. T-shirt order at Monticello Sports – ready for pick up on April 25. Dog workshops begin April 27. YQCA program – complete online or attend a certain animal training. LPR changes – from the Extension office – be sure to review changes.

     The May meeting will be Sunday, May 6 at 6 p.m.

     Royce Kiburz made the motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Ty Jesonovec. The meeting ended at 6:37 p.m. No presentations were given.
