‘Get Ready to Learn’ event planned in Jones Co.

Jones County Community Partnership for Protecting Children, Cedar/Jones Early Childhood Iowa (ECI), and Hawkeye Area Community Action Program are joining forces to host a back-to-school event: “Rev Up… and Get Ready to Learn.”

Children and their parents are welcome to a morning of activities all with the intent to prepare children so they are ready to learn, whatever their age, whatever their environment.

Available will be free child health screenings including vision, dental, and hearing for children of all ages, and developmental screenings for children through 5 years of age. Parents will be asked to sign a release for participation, and screenings meet required school screenings.

Also offered this year will be free haircuts and school supplies. Call 319-462-5318 to reserve school supplies. Haircuts will be offered on a first come, first serve basis.

There will be a children’s clothing sale to give children and their parents an opportunity to purchase gently used clothing at a very low price.

Car seat safety checks, resource information, literacy activities, food boxes, a real monster truck, and the Scooby Mystery Van will round out the day’s events.

The event will be held at Strawberry Hill Elementary School in Anamosa from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, and lunch will be provided.

Every child is unique. Whether a child is preparing for preschool, elementary or middle school, day care, or high school, all children deserve the same opportunity to be ready to learn. This event is being provided to offer an array of activities for whatever a child may need so they are off and running and READY TO LEARN.
